As a young teenager growing up in Westfield, Massachusetts, the author witnessed an incident that left him with an emotional scar. Due to this incident, his life started taking a turn in the wrong direction. When a good friend of his enticed him into joining a local drum corps, he met four unique brothers. These four young men had an immediate impact on turning the author's life around. When one of the brothers was murdered, the author's life was changed forever. This change stayed with him all during his tenure in the military and right up until ten years later, when another good friend was murdered. Eventually, his emotions got the best of him, and he had to change his surroundings to maintain his stability.

Michael Walsh and I grew up in the same small Massachusetts town. In fact, we attended the same school together from the first grade on. After high school we went our separate ways and haven’t seen each other for years.A few months ago I discovered that Mike has written a dozen books. I remembered him as a nice, quiet boy and wondered what he had written about. “Eddie’s Method” sounded intriguing, so I ordered a copy from Amazon and I found it absolutely riveting. Part of that is due, no doubt, to that fact that I actually knew some of the characters that Mike wrote about. However, there was much more to it than that. “Eddie’s Method” tells the story of a boy growing into a man, deciding to buckle down and take charge of his own destiny. This book is about real people and real life. That’s probably why I like it so much.

Great book. I remember the Drum Corp and enjoyed reading your story. I hAve learned more about your early teenage years. Others familiar with you and the Whip City Drum Corp would enjoy your story. Very inspiring
This is an awesome true story of the authors coming of age. He was totally honest in the writing of this book about the events that shaped him as a young man (good & bad), the bad decisions he and some of his friends made, his relationships with family and friends in both the good or bad moments and how this changed him, and...how one decision in his life helped turn his life around.
This book is a fantastic testament to our past and the life's of people who grew up in this small city in Massachusetts with the author. It also has an endearing moral message about how purpose can turn a unruly youth into an awesome grownup.
As a writer from Westfield where this book takes place I have seen the Whip City Drum Corps perform in parades and know the exhilaration of watching precision drills/manuals . The story was intriguing, nostalgic, poignant, and inspirational. When you look at todays disaffected youth and their self-absorption then compare them to someone like Mike who had started down a wrong path but then turned it all around with discipline and the pride of belonging to a championship winning drum corps you really can see how the world has not changed for the better. There were bittersweet moments while reading this book over two days because I remember the murders he mentions and I know a few of the same people he knows. The book made me laugh, cheer and cry several times. I hope that in posting this review I could not do it wrong!
This was a gift for someone else. They have read about half the book and given it three stars.
